Program composed of 8 semesters with duration of six months each. For a Theory course, 1 Credit hour is equivalent to one contact hour per week, whereas for lab work 1 credit hour is equivalent to 3 contact hours per week.

DEGREE OF 21ST CENTURY

Bioinformatics derives knowledge from computer analysis of biological data. These can consist of the information stored in the genetic code, but also experimental results from various sources, patient statistics, and scientific literature. Research in bioinformatics includes method development for storage, retrieval, and analysis of the data.

Bioinformatics is a rapidly developing branch of biology and is highly interdisciplinary, using techniques and concepts from informatics, statistics, mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and linguistics. It has many practical applications in different areas of biology and medicine.

It is an emerging interdisciplinary research area and its ultimate goal is to uncover the wealth of biological information hidden in the mass of sequence, structure, literature and other biological data and obtains a clearer insight into the fundamental biology of organisms and to use this information to enhance the standard of life for mankind.

CAREER PROSPECTUS

Graduates in bioinformatics can expect to engage in any combination of research, teaching, clinical service, and consultation. Within universities and research centers there is a growing need for bioinformatics researchers who can analyze new sources of high-throughput experimental data in biology, medicine, and bioengineering. Biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies also seek bioinformatics graduates for applied research on disease--and drug discovery. Medical centers are also increasingly hiring bioinformatics graduates as genomics data become important in medical research and clinical applications. Software houses working on Bioinformatics related applications are also engaging Bioinformatics Graduates.

MS-Software Engineering

Software Engineering is the discipline of designing, developing, deploying and maintaining reliable, economical and efficient software systems. However, more recently Software Engineering has evolved in response to the increased importance of software in safety-critical applications and to the growing impact of large and expensive software systems in a wide range of situations.

The following describes an overview of Software Engineering:

1. To provide software development practices requires more than just the underlying principles of computer science; it offers the rigor that the engineering disciplines bring to the reliability and trustworthiness of the artifacts.

2. Software Engineering is different in character from other engineering disciplines, due to both the intangible nature of software and to the discontinuous nature of software operation.

3. It seeks to integrate the science of Computer Science with the engineering principles developed for tangible and physical phenomena.


A software engineering program should develop professionals who have a mastery of software development principles, theory, practice, and process.

MS-Computer Science(MS-CS)

scope of Computer Science may be viewed into the following three categories:

1. To develop effective ways to solve computing problems. For example, Computer Science develops the best possible ways to store information in databases, send data over networks, and display complex images. It enables to develop new problem-solving approaches that provide better performance.

2. It devises new ways to use computers intelligently and effectively. Now, researchers are working to make robots that are practical aides and demonstrate intelligence, databases that create new knowledge and, in general, use computers to do new things.

3. It deals with the design and implementation of software systems. Computer Science provides training and skills for the successful implementation of software systems that solve challenging programming jobs. Computer Science spans the range from theory to models, design and programming. Computer Science offers a comprehensive foundation that permits graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas.

MS-Networks and Security Managements (MS-NS)

This program offers an advanced introduction and research perspectives in the areas of switch/router architectures, scheduling for best-effort and guaranteed services, QoS mechanisms and architectures, web protocols and applications, network interface design, optical networking, and network economics. The program also includes a research project in computer networking involving literature survey, critical analysis, and finally, an original and novel research contribution. This program also included Principles and Practices of network security, security threats and methods to avoid them, authentication applications, electronic mail security, electronic transaction security and digital signatures, IP security, web security, system security, intruders and viruses, firewalls, introduction to cryptographic algorithms, standard security protocols, cyber crime, policy and regulations

The MS in Network & Security Management is intended for students who wish to specialize in the security aspects of the Information Technology field. Students who complete the program will be prepared to:

1. Assess the information security risks faced by an organization .

2. Understand technology and human factors related to these risks.

3. Evaluate tools and resources currently available to limit risk, mitigate the effects of hostile action and recover from attack.

4. Manage the development, implementation and evolution of a security infrastructure.
